[Multi-culture News] The length of stay and employment for Foreign workers will be extended by a year, the Korean government said

Due to the influence of Omicron, a new mutant virus of COVID-19, it is expected that movement between countries will not be free in early next year, and difficulties in securing new foreign workers are anticipated.

Accordingly, the Korean government decided to extend the length of stay and employment for foreign workers in Korea. It is planned to help the domestic industry secure a labor force by preventing the outflow of foreign workers.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Ministry of Justice have decided to extend the working period for foreign workers, whose work permit will be expired from the 1st of January to the 12th of April in 2022, by one year. The final decision will be made after the meeting of the Foreign Workforce Policy Committee to be held on the 28th of December.

the length of stay and employment for ordinary foreign workers will be extended by the official authority of the Korean government. However, H-2 visa holders are applied for the extension measure only when the employment center issues a certificate of special employment availability for them.

[다문화뉴스] 외국인 노동자 체류, 취업활동 기간 연장 추진

코로나19의 새 변이 바이러스인 오미크론의 영향으로 내년 초에도 나라 간 이동이 자유롭지 않을 것으로 예상되는 가운데 신규 외국인 노동자 확보에 난항이 불가피할 전망이다.

이에 정부는 현재 국내에서 근무중인 외국인 노동자의 체류나 취업 활동 기간 연장을 추진하기로 했다. 외국인 노동자의 유출을 막아 국내 산업계의 원활한 노동력 수급을 돕는다는 복안이다.

고용노동부와 법무부는 내년 1월 1일부터 4월 12일까지 체류 및 취업활동 기간이 끝나는 외국인 노동자의 노동 가능 기간을 1년 연장하기로 결정했다. 오는 28일 실시되는 외국인력정책위원회 회의를 거쳐 최종 확정될 예정이다.

일반 외국인노동자는 정부가 직권으로 연장 조치하고, 방문취업동포(H-2 비자 소지자)는 고용센터가 특례고용가능확인서를 발급하거나 근로개시를 신고해야 연장 조치가 적용된다.
