[Multi-culture News] South Korean government to isolate Monkeypox confirmed cases for treatment

South Korean government announced on the 2nd of June that if there is a confirmed case of monkeypox in Korea, the confirmed person will be treated in isolation. It has not yet been decided whether the contacts will be quarantined.

Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCPA) has decided to designate monkeypox as a Class 2 infectious disease.

Class 2 infectious diseases refer to infectious diseases that require isolation in consideration of the possibility of spread, and a total of 22 species have been designated, including COVID-19, tuberculosis, and chickenpox.

Monkeypox was first reported in the UK on the 7th of May. Since then, confirmed cases have been occurring in countries around the world, including Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Australia.

Although no confirmed or suspected cases have been reported in Korea yet, the KDCPA is operating a countermeasure team considering that there is a possibility that monkeypox may be introduced into Korea.

[다문화뉴스] 정부 “원숭이두창 확진자는 격리해 치료”

정부가 국내에서 원숭이두창 확진자가 발생하면 확진자는 병원에 마련된 격리 병상에서 치료할 계획이라고 2일 밝혔다. 접촉자에 대한 격리 여부는 아직 결정되지 않았다.

질병관리청은 원숭이두창을 2급 법정 감염병으로 지정하기로 하고, 고시 개정 절차를 진행하고 있다. 고시는 오는 8일 발령될 예정이다.

2급 감염병은 전파 가능성을 고려했을 때 격리가 필요한 감염병을 뜻하는 것으로, 코로나19, 결핵, 수두 등 총 22종이 지정돼있다.

원숭이두창은 지난달 7일 영국에서 첫 발병 보고가 있었고 이후 유럽·북미·중동·호주 등 세계 각국에서 확진자가 발생하고 있다.

아직 국내에서 확진자 또는 의심 환자가 보고되지 않았지만, 질병청은 원숭이두창이 국내로 유입될 가능성이 있다고 판단하고 대책반을 운영 중이다.
