[Multi-culture News] Short-term foreign residents must pay a fine of up to 500k won if they do not present passport or travel documents to the accommodation provider when staying

The declaration of accommodation by short-term foreign residents, introduced by the Korean government to prevent the spread of COVID-19, is now fully implemented.

This reporting system was fully implemented from the 22nd of December 2021, after a pilot operation for about one year.

The declaration of accommodation by short-term foreign residents is the system introduced in order to minimize social and economic damage and secure public safety by forcing short-term foreign residents, who are B-1, B-2, C-1, C-3, C-4 visa holders, into lodging their passport or travel documents when an infectious disease or terrorism warning is issued.

Short-term foreign residents, who cannot stay in Korea for longer than 90 days, must present their passport or travel documents to the accommodation provider. Accommodation companies must report passport information received from short-term foreigners to the Ministry of Justice within 12 hours.

If a short-term foreigner does not provide a passport or travel document or provides false information to an accommodation company, a fine of 500,000 won will be imposed.

There are two ways to report. You can apply online by accessing the website (https://www.k-eta.go.kr/trds/index.do) or mobile app (K-ETA). Those who have difficulty using smartphones fill out the report form provided by the Ministry of Justice and submit it via e-mail, fax, or text message.

[다문화 뉴스] 단기체류 외국인, 숙박 업소 투숙할 때 숙박 신고 안하면 벌금 50만원 부과

정부가 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 확산 방지 차원에서 도입된 단기 체류 외국인에 숙박신고제가 전면 실시 중이다.

재작년 12월에 도입된 단기체류외국인 숙박신고제는 약 1년간 시범 운영을 마치고 작년 12월 22일을 기점으로 전면 시행됐다.

외국인 숙박신고제란 감염병 또는 테러 경보의 발령 시 단기 체류 자격을 가진 외국인이 숙박업소에 머무는 경우 숙박업자에게 여권이나 여행 증명서 등 법령이 정하는 자료를 제공하고 숙박업소는 이를 법무부에 신고하도록 함으로써 사회, 경제적 피해를 최소화하고 공공의 안전을 확보하고자 도입된 제도이다.

한국에 90일 이하의 기간 동안 머물 수 있는 '단기 체류자격(B-1, B-2, C-1, C-3, C-4 비자 소유자)'을 소지한 외국인은 숙박업소에 투숙할 때 숙박업자에게 여권이나 여행 증명서를 제시해야 한다. 숙박업자는 단기 체류 외국인으로부터 받은 여권 정보 등을 12시간 이내에 법무부에 신고해야 한다.

단기 체류 외국인이 숙박업자에게 여권이나 여행 증명서를 제공하지 않거나, 허위 정보를 제공한 경우 50만 원 이하의 과태료가 부과된다.

신고 방법은 두 가지다. 웹사이트(https://www.k-eta.go.kr/trds/index.do) 또는 모바일 앱(K-ETA)에 접속해 온라인으로 신청할 수 있고 스마트폰 사용에 어려움을 겪는 이들은 법무부에서 제공하는 신고서식을 작성해 이메일, 팩스, 휴대전화 문자 메시지 등을 통해 제출하면 된다.
